Ghibli Museum
There’s something strange about seeing something that originated as an animation and then made in real life. (and I’m not talking about action figures and souvenirs either.)
Examples:

animated Baby’s room ceiling in Spirited Away–>ACTUAL ceiling in Ghibli museum

animated soot balls from Spirited Away–>ACTUAL soot balls

animated robot from Laputa–> ACTUAL life size robot from Laputa
You get the idea.
The place was packed with little visual clues from Miyazaki’s movies. PACKED. I guess it’s like the Disney land for Ghibli fans, only cooler. The whole place was set up so there wasn’t any one right way to go through it. You just wandered and discovered as you wanted.
At one point, I turned a corner and found two little stairs up to a tiny, dark door. This is what I found behind it. Me!

Most of the rooms had crafty little animation demos explaining the process involved in making the films.
In one room, I witnessed all of the drawings made for his latest film, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea. (Imagine three couches made entirely out of stacks of paper; each one a different frame of the movie. Then, combine them all together in one big pile and put them in a small glass room. That was the number of drawings it took!)
Even the outside was enchanting.

Sometimes, I was sure I was more excited to explore and see the exhibits than the other kids were.
The only downside: They wouldn’t let me play on the cat bus.
